Baby Friendly Activities for July 4th

1. Start the day by dressing up your little one in festive clothing.

2. Time to eat. Invite fellow friends or family over for a BBQ or just to eat some snacks or desserts. Enjoy some festive food by using one of our recipes below:

Spangled Berry Blast - Quick & Easy

1 package of store-bought angel food cake
1 tub of whipped cream whipped topping, thawed
1 package fresh strawberries
Blue food die

1. Wash strawberries and remove stems. Slice all strawberries, set aside.
2. Die half of tub of whipped topping using blue die until you reach color of choice.
3. Slice angel food cake into squares.
4. In a large glass pedestal bowl, line the bottom with one layer of angel food cake. Next, add a layer of blue whipped topping, then a layer of white whipped topping, then a layer of strawberries.
5. Repeat until finished. Repeat.

July 4th BBQ Ideas

Burger Blast

1 lb. ground beef
½ cup chopped onion
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1 large tomato, sliced
1 avocado, sliced
4 slices of Colby Jack cheese
4 large slices of lettuce
4 buns
Mayonnaise
Ketchup

1. In a bowl, mix hamburger, onion and garlic salt. Shape hamburger into 4-5 patties. 
2. Place on the grill for approximately 3-5 minutes per side or until cooked. Turn off grill, place one slice of cheese on each patty, close lid. Remove when cheese is melted.
3. Spread mayonnaise and ketchup on buns. Place hamburger on the flat side of bun, top with lettuce, tomato and avocado. Serves 4.

Serve with grilled corn-on-the-cob, your favorite baked beans, watermelon and your favorite chips.

3. Check your local newspapers to find local parades, shows and fireworks. Set out to find an activity and find a nice spot for you and baby to enjoy the holiday. Don't forget the sunscreen!

Keeping July 4th Safe for Kids 

The 4th of July is an enjoyable occasion spent with family and friends. Many choose to watch a fireworks display or choose to light off their own. In many states, it is illegal to light them. Be sure to check your city and state regulations; your local fire department may also be an appropriate agency to call to find out local rules on lighting fireworks.

Adults should always light any fireworks; young children should never be allowed to handle or light any fireworks. Fireworks should be lit outside in an open space, keeping a safe distance from people or animals. Never point the fireworks towards any person or anything that may cause damage. Be sure there are no electrical lines, telephone lines, bushes or trees nearby. Never light fireworks near flammable items, such as grass or leaves. Always keep a bucket of water or hose nearby.

Always follow the instructions provided that were provided with any fireworks; never alter the fireworks in any way. Always teach your child never to touch any firework that may be lit or hot. Never handle any firework that fails to light off, this can be dangerous as it may still explode.

By following these common sense safety tips, your family can enjoy a fun and safer holiday. Remember, always pick up your used fireworks after they have cooled down and ready for throwaway.
