Cute Mother's Day Gift from Baby

How to Create a Clay Handprint for Mother's Day

This is a easy and affordable gift that a child can give to mom, grandma or anyone else on Mother's Day. Children enjoy making this fun craft and it creates a great memory for everyone. All you need are a few common household ingredients. You can choose to use acrylic paint.

Items Needed

3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons cream of tarter

Acrylic paint (optional)

1. Measure the ingredients for your child. In medium bowl, have him or her mix together flour, salt and cream of tarter. Slowly add water. Stir.

2. Have your child knead the dough until firm.

3. Transfer the dough onto a cookie sheet. Have your child flatten the dough with hands. Use a roller to flatten thoroughly. Using a toothpick, write your child's name and date anywhere there is room (side, center, bottom, or back). Use the toothpick to create two holes on the top that are large enough to put yarn through.

4. Bake in oven for 30 minutes at 170 degrees. Turn oven off and let dough remain in oven for a couple of hours.

5. Your child can start painting it when it has cooled or the next day with his or her's choice of colors. You may need to let air dry for 2 additional days to let the dough fully dry.

6. Lastly, have your child string a piece of yarn through the holes and help to tie a knot.

Happy Mother's Day!
