By Kimberly Hodgkins - Official Facebook Page, Facebook Friend, LinkedIn, MySpace, Twitter

Summer is a fun time to take a trip with the family. Some choose to take an extended vacation, while others might choose a day trip. Below are some fun and exciting ideas that are suitable for kids of all ages. Whether your vacation is for a day or a week, there are ideas for everyone.

Outside Fun

Go to a waterpark. There are many waterparks located throughout the U.S. Use the Internet to find parks that are near your home or travel destination. Many parks may provide indoor water areas. Be sure to bring swim diapers for your children if they are not potty-trained, plenty of sun-block and safety swimming devices.

Visit a fun center. Family fun centers are located in virtually every major city. Missouri is a good example with cities that have dozens of fun centers that offer numerous activities, such as miniature golf and go-kart riding.

Visit a fair or festival. Most cities and towns have ample events during the summer months. Craft booths, food, petting zoos, face painting, rides and musical performances can be found at most fairs and festivals.

Inside Fun

Go to a science museum. Kids get to experience hand-on learning through interactive exhibits. They can learn about gravity, sounds, friction and more! Simply use the Internet to look for the nearest science museum near your destination, some may charge a small admission fee.

Attend a Build-A-Bear Workshop or buy a Build-A-Bear kit below. With hundreds of locations, parents can most likely find a workshop close by. Children can create their own bear while experiencing hours of fun.

Resorts

Stay at a resort. Many resorts offer entertainment centers and game areas for kids. Along with that, they usually offer excellent swimming areas, kids boutiques, movies and even inside bowling lanes. A notable example is the Grand Sierra in Reno, Nevada.

Visit a circus. If you are in the Reno or Las Vegas area in Nevada, Circus Circus provides free circus act performances. Some of the acts include acrobats, dog acts and jugglers. There is also an array of rides and games for kids.

Fun at Home

Have a staycation. Gather the tents and sleeping bags and head to the backyard. Have fun with your kids by enjoying the outside, in your own backyard. Go on a scavenger hunt, play outdoor games and even roast some marshmallows in your fire pit.
